If you are unsure of what exactly a rubric is please take the time to read through the following message.
In educational terms a rubric is an explicit set of criteria used for assessing a particular type of work or performance. A rubric usually also includes levels of potential achievement for each criterion, and sometimes also includes work or performance samples that typify each of those levels. Levels of achievement are often given numerical scores. A summary score for the work being assessed may be produced by adding the scores for each criterion.
Still not so clear, no problem!! In more simple terms a rubric is used to set the expectation for an assignment. Having access to a rubric allows you and your child to know exactly what is expected, and what areas may need to be improved upon. Each vertical column on a rubric shows the amount of points awarded for each category listed, as well as an explanation of why the score was given.
